Proactive maintenance ensures that water sensitive urban design (WSUD) assets remain in a good condition and cost less to maintain in the long term. An integrated approach to maintenance of the stormwater and landscape components of these assets is more likely to deliver better results. Rob Catchlove, Wave Maintenance, will provide evidence that maintenance costs can be reduced over time, if assets are prevented from deteriorating to a poor condition rating.

We know that sediment management is critical to ensuring assets deliver their intended benefits, and Rob will demonstrate some simple, cost-effective methods currently being applied in Melbourne to manage sediment.

Landscape contractor LD Total are six months into their contract to provide inspection and maintenance services to City of Marion for a suite of WSUD assets. Glynn Ricketts, City of Marion, will explain how data emerging from inspections using Councils new electronic form is set to transform how these assets are managed. Cost savings are expected via efficiencies in scheduling of works orders to restore tired WSUD assets to their intended functionality. LD Total’s Chris Collingwood will share a contractor’s perspective of WSUD asset management and where opportunities exist to sustain the desired level of service of these blue-green assets.

Dale Browne, E2Designlab, will provide evidence of the effectiveness of maintenance regimes to restore infiltration rates within both permeable and porous pavements. An audit of Melbourne pervious pavement systems identified the degree of clogging. The systems were tested again after thorough cleaning and optimal maintenance regimes were recommended to sustain suitable infiltration rates.

Rob Catchlove, Wave Maintenance and Wave Consulting

Rob has a 20 years’ experience in water projects, from local to international, across all levels of government and for private enterprises. Over that time, Rob has been able to connect with and gather experience from a wide range of professionals in the social sciences, marketing, engineering, landscape architecture, governance/law, leadership and environmental disciplines.

Glynn Ricketts, City of Marion
Glynn Ricketts Water Resource Coordinator, City of Marion

Glynn has been City of Marion’s Water Resource Coordinator for 11 years, primarily responsible for the optimum management of the Councils recycled water business. Although Glynn is an Aquatic Biologist, he started working in waste management during his time living in the UK.

Chris Collingwood State Manager, LD Total

Chris has more than 20 years’ experience in landscape construction and open space management. He has overseen recent growth in the LD Total business, expanding into water sensitive urban design asset management.

Dr Dale Browne, Senior Enviornmental Engineer, E2Designlab
Dale Browne Senior Engineer, E2Designlab

Dale is an expert in the modelling and design of water sensitive urban design systems. His experience is extensive across both the development and application of practical applied models for stormwater and waterway management.

Combining his enthusiasm for the principles of WSUD with a pragmatic user perspective, Dale applies his expertise in WSUD and integrated water management to deliver innovative solutions for managing urban water. These range from stormwater reuse for households to integrated designs for simultaneous mitigation of flooding, management of hydrology for environmental protection, stormwater treatment and stormwater reuse to improve landscape and recreational amenity.
