Join the ASBN and AIUS to discuss how we establish water sensitive cities through developing Blue Infrastructure to aid in sustainable water management, climate adaptation and improving urban ecology.On the night we will have presentations by local professionals to discuss how Blue Infrastructure is currently being developed and also how we create more opportunities in the future.
We hope that through our collaborative event, our audience will be empowered by the speakers presentations around Blue Infrastructure and inspired by local case studies.
Robin Allison will describe the design response to convert the Oaklands Park Driver Education Centre into a stormwater harvesting facility integrated into a regional community park. The project required close collaboration between disciplines in order to develop a functional stormwater treatment and harvesting system while also responding to the existing site features and creating an attractive and usable space for the public.
Mellissa Bradley will discuss how the reintegration of water back into the urban landscape provides microclimate (cooling) benefits that create better places for us to live and work.
Following the presentation, the ASBN will hold a Q&A session between presenters and audience. Dinners from the Depot Collective Cafe and wine from Whistling Kite Wines will be available, along with plenty of networking time. We hope to see you there!
Spotlight Presenter Bio
Dr Robin Allison – Director of Design Flow
Robin is a founding Director of DesignFlow, a specialist water sensitive urban design consultancy based in in SA, Victoria andQueensland.
He has more than 20 years’ experience in stormwater management and in particular integrating WSUD into urban spaces to protect aquaticecosystems while enhancing people’s enjoyment and appreciation of water.
He has delivered projects from streetscape scale to regional wetlands and a focus is often on retrofitting systems within constraints of existing urban areas. All of the systems employed use vegetation as a key driver of water quality improvement and promote blue infrastructure
Mellissa Bradley – Program Manager of Water Sensitive SA
Mellissa is a strong advocate for the creation of more liveable cities and towns through the delivery of new developments, capital works and asset renewal that incorporate integrated water management objectives and best practice water sensitive urban design. Mellissa has more than 20 years experience working within the fields of civil design, development assessment, policy development, environmental management and construction management.
Her experience in engineering and planning, together with a history of developing and implementing capacity building programs for local government in catchment and urban water management, has brought Mellissa to her current role as Program Manager with Water Sensitive SA – a capacity building program for water sensitive urban design.
Glynn Ricketts – Water Resources Coordinator at City of Marion
Glynn’s main role is to capture, treat and re-use stormwater for irrigating the public realm and sports ovals. He is an aquatic biologists but now finds himself buried in contract and project management duties. His favourite part of the job is using the weltands has a research platform for local primary, highschool and University students
