Rainfall this summer across Adelaide is down by 57 percent, on top of low rainfall recordings from 2024. Most of the Fleurieu Peninsula and Adelaide Hills went without 10mm of rain for over 100 days ((up to 12 March 2025 refer ABC news). Therefore, it is not surprising we have witnessed widespread vegetation loss in our WSUD assets.
Here are some things you can do now to best prepare your WSUD for the rain we hope to receive in the coming months:

Clear any debris or litter from pipes, inlets, outlets and filter surface -
Scrape away sediment from inlets and filter surface

Make sure your sediment and erosion controls are working before it rains

Remove dead or diseased plants

Repair or replace any damaged hydraulic structures or inspection pipes

Supplementary watering if no rain for 6 weeks or more.
