The CRC for Water Sensitive Cities in conjunction with the Facility for Advancing Water Biofiltration (FAWB), will soon release their Adoption Guidelines for Stormwater Biofiltration Systems. On 8 July, Water Sensitive SA will host Adelaide’s first training for the new guidelines.
Prof. Ana Deletic and Dr Belinda Hatt, Monash University, will provide:
- an introduction to the function and benefits of raingardens
- basic information required for conceptual design
- an overview of the key features of the Adoption Guidelines for Stormwater Biofiltration Systems.
Presentation slides for the biofiltration guidelines training by Prof. Ana Deletic and Dr Belinda Hatt .
Learning Outcome – An ability to prepare a brief for a consultant, construction or maintenance contractor to design, establish or maintain a raingarden
Who should attend – Council engineers, consulting engineers, community groups or schools with plans to develop a biofiltration rain garden.
Topics covered will include:
- What are biofiltration systems?
- How do they work? – the physical, chemical and biological processes for stormwater treatment
- Expected performance for (i) pollutant removal and (ii) hydraulic and hydrological
- Concept design
- Monitoring the performance of the system
- Introduction to construction methods and approaches for vegetated stormwater management systems
- Key issues and risks that need to be considered when constructing and establishing vegetated stormwater management systems
- Construction phase sediment and erosion control practices, and their relationship with operational phase stormwater management systems.
The training will include site visits to recently constructed biofiltration systems under the Catchments to Coast funding program and more established systems.
All attendees will receive a hard copy of the Adoption Guidelines for Stormwater Biofiltration Systems.
Registrations close 5.00pm Monday 6 July.
